FH Quickie: Hardware Sociéte

It's been a long time since our last post and what better way than to start it off with a Quickie? This time, the Quickie comes from Down Under, which sounds about as sexually ambiguous as we can get on a blog meant for minors.

So Hardware Sociéte.

Since coming to Melbourne, I've heard a lot about this place, mostly from Marcus 'Black Hole' Toh. He's always telling me how good the brunch is, but never able to wake up in time for it. Well, we got to try it (not the brunch menu because *surprise surprise* we woke up late.) There's always a long line outside Hardware Sociéte because it's a relatively small place, all cozy and snug. So expect wait times to go about half an hour to 45 minutes.

Hardware Sociéte is primarily a cafe, more suited for a nice cup of coffee or chocolate, than as a place to have a meal. But since it was lunch time (I cannot stress enough the fact that we woke up late),we missed out their 'incredible, fantastic and amazing' brunch menu (Toh, M. 2012). Nevertheless, food still had to be eaten.

Their lunch menu didn't have a lot of choices. Like I said, the place is a cafe. You don't go to a cafe and expect them to have a full range of food. But that being said, Hardware Sociéte does have some pretty good food.

This is their signature hot chocolate. Don't go ewwww yet because this is pretty much the unmade chocolate. Hardware Sociéte believes that you make your own hot chocolates because only you know how you want your hot chocolate to taste like (the correct answer is amazing).

What cafe is not without a cuppa coffee? Honestly, I'm not so much of a coffee person so this cappuccino tastes pretty much like every other cappuccino I've tasted so far.

The special for that day, lamb leg with a side of potatoes and vegetables. It's not very tender but oh man, the taste is just exquisite. And look at that small portion, which believe it or not, can pretty much fill anyone up. Yes, even the Black Hole was (temporarily) closed up.

Atlantic salmon with octopus.Again, the portions look terribly small, but are in fact a disguise which can even fill up the greatest of stomachs.

Seared scallops. Juicy. Very juicy.

Chicken breast, which isn't too dry either. Perfect.

Of course, what meal would be complete without the people you're eating with?

Here's a little fun fact. Remember our post on CoffeeSociété? Well, the owner shared with us that the actual inspiration for opening up CoffeeSociété is because he wanted to do something similar to Hardware Sociéte.
If you're in Melbourne, why not pop over and make your own hot chocolate? You won't regret it.

FH Quickie: Kangaroo Burgers

I don't know where most of you stand on kangaroos, but I think they're adorable. In fact, I think they're so adorable that when my friend Michelle asked me whether I wanted to try kangaroo meat here in Melbourne, I didn't even think twice. Remember, the answer is yes, just in case anyone asks you the same question.

Never say no to this!

So we headed to this little shop in Melbourne called 1000 £ Bend, where they had something called a Grilled Roo Burger. If you're like me, the first thing you will imagine is this.

RIGHT IN THE CHILDHOOD!

Fortunately, my childhood was saved from further bashing when the actual burgers came.

These whoppers really works up one's appetite, especially when one has been out walking in the windy cold Melbourne weather.

Pictured: A ravenous appetite.

What I will say about kangaroo burgers is, GIVE ME MORE! The meat tastes very...outdoorsy. That's the first word that came up for me.

Outdoorsy. It's now a word.

It's not like beef or chicken but more towards a mix of lamb and venison. You know, the taste of the great outdoors! That's how kangaroo meat tastes like. Michelle said it tastes rustic so we'll also include that in here.

Rustic tasting.

But the burger came with a little too much veggies for my taste. I would rather have more kangaroo meat. If I wanted veggie burgers, I would have gone to Lord of the Fries. Just saying...

Overall, delicious. Plus, 1000 £ Bend has the cheapest beer in town at AUD 2.50 a glass. Oh, I forgot to mention that kangaroo meat and beer goes REALLY well together.

What doesn't go well with beer?

So the next time you're in Melbourne, you should head on over here for some outdoorsy meat and a bouncing good time.

FH Quickie: Ribs @ Oasis

This post will be a Quickie. It's something new we are coming up with. We realized that it will be difficult for most of us to update this blog, with the amount of things we have to do (like study and work). So, a Quickie will basically be a really short post about a place we may have eaten at before.

Today's Quickie will be at Ribs @ Oasis.

It's hidden in a small remote area in Bandar Utama, which I didn't even know existed. (Directions and address will be given at the end of the post) Like an oasis in the middle of the desert, Ribs really provides a relief for the hungry belly.

If you haven't already guessed, Ribs serves ribs. I actually only got to try two different entrees from the menu.

One was the pork loin in honey mustard sauce.

And the other was the pork ribs in BBQ sauce.

Both came with a complimentary mushroom soup.

Mushroom soup.

The mushroom soup was very nice. Unlike the thick gooey mushroom soup you get elsewhere, this mushroom soup is just magnifique. But the main highlight is the pork loins. Let me just say that the pork loins are simply the best.

The most delicious thing EVER!

Every bite was juicy and melted in my mouth. I wanted more and more and more. Sadly, the pork ribs aren't much to shout about. Hardly any meat in them bones. But the pork loin. Wow. Must try.

Not much meat in them bones.

Definitely worth coming here for round 2? Anyone on? Pork loins here I come!
